Chicago in the Winter

by admin ~ January 13th, 2012

Sure you may know Chicago as a barren wasteland in the wintertime but that’s simply not true! Whether you’ve got a internet.clear.com internet connection or just a brochure, see what you can find about these great cold-weather activities in Chicago itself.
Millennium Park: ice skating is a cold weather institution and Millennium has one of the best rinks in the city. It can be crowded but don’t fret – just bring cold weather clothes as it’s outdoors and will be chilly.
Chicago History Museum: it offers free admission on Mondays and it’s pretty interactive if you’ve got kids in tow. There’s a cute little coffee shop and lots of exhibits to explore so it’s a great bet even when the weather isn’t cooperating with your visit.
Snow Days: if you happen to be here at the right time you may catch Grant Park’s Snow Days festival. There are games, rides and food all based around every Chicagoan’s love for the white stuff and it makes a lively (if not really, really cold) afternoon where you and your kids can get some fresh air.

For my mom (a.k.a, grandma), this is about seeing the grandkids explore nature but also about watching for birds and flowers. Bird watching is something I enjoy too. Continue reading »
